Solar Plexus – Where is it?
The solar plexus is the area between your ribs and navel. It’s a very important part of your body, as it houses most of your organs. This means that it’s crucial that you take care of this part with regular stretches and exercises.
Stretching the solar plexus is an important part of any yoga practice. It helps you to focus on this region of your body and makes you feel more comfortable in everyday life. The following poses are a great way to warm up before practicing asana, or stretching exercises!
Sit up tall
To stretch your solar plexus, simply sit up tall with your back straight. This will open up the area between your ribs and navel, allowing you to stretch it more easily. You should feel this stretch in the center of your body, just below where your ribs come together. Hold this pose for about 30 seconds before moving on to another one.
Sit up tall with your back straight, and your shoulders relaxed. Place the tip of your right index finger on the point between your ribs and navel. Now breathe in deeply, hold for a few seconds, then exhale slowly while gently pressing down on that point. You’ll feel a slight stretching sensation in this area of your body as you exhale.
Cross your feet
Crossing the legs at the ankles is a good way to get a deeper stretch, but if you’re not used to doing this it can be uncomfortable or even painful. To make sure that doesn’t happen, cross one foot in front of the other instead and then gently lean forward until you feel pressure on your solar plexus (the center part of your stomach).
Hug knees in
Hug your knees in towards your chest. The closer you can get them to your chin, the better! You can use a wall or chair for support if needed. Hold this position for 10 seconds and repeat 3-5 times.
Keep in mind:
- Don’t arch your back when doing this stretch–keep it straight!
- Don’t bend your knees too far; only bend them enough so that they come close to touching each other but don’t actually touch (this could cause injury).
Breathe deeply
Breathing deeply is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind. Inhale through your nose, filling the lungs completely with air. Hold for a few seconds, then exhale through pursed lips or by humming softly. Repeat this process several times until you feel relaxed.
This exercise can also be performed while lying down on a flat surface such as a yoga mat or carpeted floor (or even better yet, in bed!). If you’re having trouble finding room for your arms under your head, try placing them at right angles across one another with palms facing up so that they lie flat against each other just below where the neck meets shoulders–it should feel comfortable without being too tight around shoulders or neck muscles!
Solar plexus stretches are a great way to target this area
The solar plexus is located at the base of your ribcage and slightly below your sternum. The stretch can help with stress relief, digestion and breathing problems.
There are many different stretches that target this area but one of my favorites is called “The Windmill Stretch”. This exercise helps open up tight chest muscles as well as strengthen your back muscles which in turn helps with posture!
